Trying Tokyu Plaza Ginza “TsuruTonTan” Specialty Udon
TsuruTonTan is is a high-class specialty udon restaurant. It has 6 locations in Tokyo and 7 locations in Osaka.
This time, I’ll be introducing TsuruTonTan UDON NOODLE Brasserie, located on the 10th floor of Tokyu Plaza Ginza. This location opened on March 31st, 2016. The restaurant’s spacious interior is divided into a bar area and a restaurant area, making it great for parties and dates. It’s a stylish udon restaurant!
TsuruTonTan offers menus in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean, making it foreign-accessible.
They serve sushi, teppanyaki, and other dishes in addition to udon, so you can enjoy a variety of specialty Japanese cuisine here.
In addition to the popular regular menu, the Ginza location has a new specialty menu as well. The side menu has a wide variety of offerings, like colorful and flavorful “Roll Rushi,” and “Temaki Style TsuruTon Roll Sushi,” which looks like a cute crepe.
The cheapest noodle dish at TsuruTonTan is the kitsune udon, at 730 yen.
This time, I ordered the hot and sour udon (1280 yen) off of the Ginza shop’s original menu.
Typically, an order of udon comes with one serving of noodles, but at TsuruTonTan you can get up to three servings of noodles at no extra cost! That’s awesome!
This picture is of two servings of noodles. You can choose from fine noodles or thick noodles; I chose thick.
The acidity is well-balanced, and the aftertaste is a blend of the dashi’s flavor and umami that coats your mouth. You can easily eat two servings of noodles without getting tired of it! I want to try eating three servings when I’m really hungry.
One characteristic of TsuruTonTan’s udon is the variety of flavors you can choose from; they don’t just offer traditional Japanese-style udon, but curry udon, Italian-style udon, and Chinese-style udon as well. All varieties have Japanese dashi as the soup’s base, so you can enjoy a harmonious blend of flavors with any of them.
The concept behind each of TsuruTonTan’s locations is different, so you can enjoy each location as a completely different restaurant.
I recommend going to the Ginza location at night! You can enjoy the delicious udon and Japanese food while listening to live jazz music and watching a night view of Ginza.
