Kagoshima – Ohara Matsuri
Kagoshima’s Ohara Matsuri is a lively, vibrant festival during which over 20,000 dancers parade through the city to the beat of songs like “Ohara-bushi,” a local folk song.
Dancers wear different designs of outfits based on the teams they are on, and since the outfits are so colorful and beautiful, it’s even fun to just watch the performances!
So-Odori
The So-odori is the main event of Ohara Matsuri, during which over 20,000 people dance along to Kagoshima’s local songs like “Ohara-bushi,” “Kagoshima Hanya Bushi,” and “Shibuya Ondo.” The choreography for Ohara-bushi seems to have meanings based on history and nature.
Ogojo Taiko
“Ogojo” means “woman” in Kagoshima’s local dialect. As such, Ogojo Taiko is a beautiful and spectacular taiko drum performance put on by women.
