Omuro Mountain, an independent peak with an altitude of 580m, is located in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This volcano, which looks like an overturned bowl, is a beloved symbol of the Izu Plateau. Formed by volcanic activity about 4000 years ago, Omuro Mountain is a nationally designated natural monument and the largest scoria cone in the eastern Izu Volcanic Group.

It takes about 6 minutes to reach the summit by lift. The 'Crater Walk' around the rim of the former eruption site is about 1 kilometer long, offering a 360-degree panoramic view that includes Mount Fuji, the Southern Alps, the Izu Islands, and the Boso Peninsula. The Sengen Shrine, which enshrines the gods of safe childbirth and matchmaking, is located within the crater, while five life-sized Buddha statues are placed at the summit's west side. Omuro Mountain, once considered sacred itself, is also popular as a power spot.

On New Year's Day, a special lift operation starts early in the morning, allowing you to see the first sunrise from near Izu Oshima Island. Also, in February each year, the 'Mountain Burning' event is held where the entire mountain is set on fire. With a history said to be over 700 years old, this event originally aimed to collect high-quality reeds and control pests. Today, it is a major event announcing the arrival of spring in Izu and is a continuing traditional event.
