Sumida Edo Kiriko Museum
Exhibits, Goods for Purchase, and Experiences of “Edo Kiriko,” a Traditional Craft Passed Down Since the Edo Period!
Edo kiriko is a traditional craft that involves engraving delicate Japanese designs onto glass. The craft has been made in Tokyo since the later years of the Edo period (1603-1868). Sumida Edo Kiriko Museum is a workshop and shop certified by Sumida-ku that introduces its guests to Edo kiriko. There are many Edo kiriko pieces both on display and available for purchase, from splendid pieces created by talented kiriko artisans that you’ll wish to covet for yourself, to pieces that are suitable for everyday use.
Inside the shop you’ll not only find displays on Edo kiriko’s history and the various tools used in the craft, but also artisan-crafted pieces through windows. You can even make your own unique glasses during the Edo kiriko cutting experience.
