Last update :

Sankeien is a Japanese Garden built by Hara Sankei, an entrepreneur who was also a man of culture.
Extending over an expanse of 175,000 square meters, many important cultural assets were relocated here from Kyoto and Kamakura. They have been masterfully arranged throughout the garden.
Within the garden, a variety of flowers bloom in every season, and events are held for visitors to enjoy these blossoms.
At the teahouse, savor soba or udon noodles, seasonal bento boxes, and simple Japanese sweets.
The museum shop features Japanese sweets and miscellaneous items that can only be purchased here.

Highlights

  • It takes about 90 to 120 minutes to tour the garden.
  • In the Outer Garden, there is a 3-storied pagoda, a Muromachi-era structure relocated from Kyoto, and the cherry blossoms and iris flowers are beautiful.
  • In the Inner Garden, enjoy elegant ancient architecture and delicately designed gardens.
  • At the museum shop, you can buy cute little Japanese goods and Japanese sweets made in beautiful designs.
  • At the Sankei Memorial Hall, works by writers connected to Sankeien are displayed. There is also a teahouse where you can savor green tea and sweets (for a fee).
