Ohara Museum of Art is housed in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter and has on display a collection of modern and contemporary art works. In 1930, Ohara Magozaburo, a local businessman, established this nation’s first private museum for western arts.

The main gallery exhibition includes El Greco’s Annunciation, Monet’s Waterlilies, and works of Renoir and Gauguin. The collection has expanded over a 90 year period, and now holds more than 3,000 works from modern and contemporary Japanese painters and Japanese Folk Art Movement artists’ work, as well as Asian and Egyptian artifacts.

They have also been hosting a variety of events for educational programs.
The museum shop sells replica paintings and original art goods.

  • The Kurashiki Bikan area is a wonderful place, perfect for a relaxing day. The Ohara Museum of Art has an amazing collection, including Yayoi Kusama's dots and Monet's garden. There are four exhibition halls, so it's worth getting a combo ticket to see them all at once.
