IBARAKI NATURE MUSEUM
Learn about nature in the past, present, and future, and deepen your understanding of the global environment.
It is a natural history museum based on the concept of "learn from the past, understand the present, and foresee the future." The museum has two main exhibits: an indoor exhibit with wealthy contents and an outdoor facility full of nature.
The indoor exhibition hall has a permanent display of mammoth specimens, fossils, and minerals that are symbolic of the past. Other departmental exhibits with themes of plants, animals, and geology are also available. Let's learn about the evolving life of the universe and the earth through interesting materials that are well worth seeing, and also learn about the mechanism of nature and the global environment for the future.
The outdoor facility exhibit boasts an area about 3.5 times the size of the Tokyo Dome. It is dotted with spots and plazas that are ideal for various fieldwork. At the "Dragonfly Pond," made of natural spring water, you can observe wet and aquatic plants, small animals, and aquatic life. There is also the "Ancient Square Playground" where you can explore the environment and life in ancient times, and the "Sorimachi Komon Bridge," a valuable civil engineering heritage built in the Meiji era to prevent the Tone River from flowing backward, waiting for you.
The special exhibitions held three to four times a year are also noteworthy. In the past, exhibits on the ecology of the giant squid and in-depth research on dinosaurs have
