Tsumami Zaiku is a traditional Japanese craft that dates back to the middle of the Edo period, using small pieces of cloth folded and pinched to create motifs like flowers and birds, which are then used to adorn combs and hairpins. The vibrant beauty, as seen on maiko's hairpins, is captivating.
The "Tsumami Zaiku Experience" held in the Kyoto-style house annexed at the back of the store allows participants to make authentic hairpins using hand-dyed Habutae fabric. This popular experience has attracted over 10,000 participants so far. With detailed guidance provided, even beginners can join with confidence.
Participants can freely choose the shape and color of the flower, the finishing style, and more from five categories to create a unique hair ornament that is one-of-a-kind in the world. The entire experience lasts about an hour and a half, and participants can take their creations home the same day. Those interested in the experience are recommended to book in advance, with reservations needed by the previous business day.
