Tokyo Photographic Art Museum
A globally rare museum specializing in photography and film.
Opened in 1995, the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum is Japan's first museum dedicated to photography and film. Located within the multi-purpose complex "Ebisu Garden Place," it features three exhibition rooms and a hall that showcase a diverse range of photographic and film works from both Japan and abroad.
The museum's collection exceeds 36,000 pieces (as of March 2022) and includes everything from historical artifacts of photography and film's early days to contemporary works by modern artists. The permanent exhibition, "TOP Collection," features curated works aligned with specific themes, selected by the museum's curators. In addition to these, about 15 exhibitions are hosted annually.
The hall on the first floor also screens thematic films under the "Art & Human" concept, featuring a variety of short films and documentaries that change periodically. The museum also houses a museum shop and café, as well as a library with an extensive collection of photobooks and photography-related literature.
