See, touch, and learn about animation production in Suginami, the "City of Animation”.
Suginami Ward has long been home to animation studios, and today boasts the largest number of animation studios in Japan.
“Suginami Animation Museum”, located in Suginami Ward, is Japan's first facility that comprehensively introduces animation in general.
Using video and images, the exhibition introduces the history of Japanese animation, the principles of animation, and the production process.
Popular exhibits include a dubbing corner where visitors can try their hand at voice acting, a digital workshop for coloring and editing using computers, and other participatory exhibits that allow visitors to actually experience the process of anime production.
Other exhibits include an "Anime Theater" showing selected animation masterpieces on a 150-inch screen, a large collection of animation-related materials such as books and videos, and an "Anime Library" where visitors can view interviews with creators involved in animation production.
The museum also holds regular workshops where visitors can create their own original animations, including drawing, stop-motion filming, and dubbing.
