Miyajima Ropeway

An easy glide up the side of Mount Misen, the home of the revered World Heritage Site and Miyajima.

Last update :

Mount Misen, logged at a staggering 535 meters high is the highest peak on Miyajima and has been revered as a sacred site since ancient times. With the Miyajima Ropeway, you can comfortably reach Shishiiwa Station, located at an elevation of 433 meters, in about 15 minutes.

The ropeway system covers approximately 1.6 km between Momijidani Station at the base, Kayatani Station in the middle, and Shishiiwa Station near the summit, using two lines. The Momijidani Line operates in a continuous loop with gondolas departing at regular intervals, while the Shishiiwa Line features a shuttle system with two gondolas alternating back and forth.

From Shishiiwa Station, a hike to the summit takes about an hour and offers breathtaking views of the Seto Inland Sea and various historical and natural attractions, including ancient temples and unique rock formations. For those concerned about the hike, the nearby Shishiiwa Observatory also provides spectacular views. There is a free shuttle bus stop about a 6-minute walk from Itsukushima Shrine, providing smooth transportation to Momijidani Station.
