Inawashiro Lake
Inawashiro Lake, with majestic Mount Bandai towering to its north, is Japan's fourth largest lake.
Overlooking Mount Bandai in the north, Inawashiro Lake is the fourth largest in Japan, covering an area of approximately 103 square kilometers and reaching depths of up to 93 meters. During the summer, the lake becomes a bustling hub for water activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing. Centrally located in Fukushima Prefecture, it spans the cities of Aizuwakamatsu and Koriyama, as well as Inawashiro Town. Renowned for its clear waters, the lake is a habitat for the nationally designated natural monument of the Mizusugi-goke moss colonies and is a known landing site for swans, marking it as an important ecological area.
The area around Inawashiro Lake is dotted with hot springs, boasting abundant water flow. In particular, Inawashiro Town is surrounded by three active volcanoes: Mount Bandai, Mount Adatara, and Mount Azuma, with Numajiri Motoyu being one of the most prolific natural spring sources in Japan.
Recently, "Inawashiro's New Eight Views" were established, promoting the town's rivers, waterfalls, and other scenic spots. Visitors can experience the natural beauty of locations such as the Kannonji River, Tenkyodai (Showa no Mori), and the splash ice of Tenjin Beach, among eight distinct sites.
