The "AONODOKUTSU SHIBUYA Illumination" in Shibuya, a romantic blue light illumination extending about 800 meters from Shibuya's Park Street to the Zelkova trees of Yoyogi Park, creates a magical atmosphere for the Christmas season. Starting in Nakameguro in 2014 and moving to Shibuya in 2016, excluding the years 2015, 2020, and 2021 when the event was not held, it has been a popular event attracting over 10 million visitors in total.
The event's name is inspired by the famous tourist spot in Capri, Italy, known for its sea cave where the water appears to glow blue. The approximately 770,000 blue lights create a space as enchanting as the actual cave. Particularly breathtaking is the Yoyogi Park Zelkova row, where each of the roughly 60 trees is adorned with 7,000 bulbs.
This year, for the first time, a Christmas market is held at the Yoyogi Park Zelkova tree venue. About 20 stores offering gourmet food and goods allow visitors to immerse themselves in the Christmas spirit even before sunset, earlier than when the lights turn on.
