Located between Hon-Kawagoe Station and the warehouse-style streets, Renkeiji is a Jodo sect temple with origins in the Muromachi period. During the Edo period, under the devout Buddhist Tokugawa Shogunate, it was recognized as one of the "Kanto Juuhachidanrin," a prestigious Buddhist study center, and was permitted to display the Tokugawa hollyhock crest. The principal image is an Amitabha Buddha statue from the Kamakura period.

A major attraction is the bright red "Obinzuru-sama" statue in front of the main hall. A disciple of Buddha, it's believed that touching the statue can cure illnesses and touching its head can make one wiser, attracting many visitors. Additionally, on every 8th of the month, the temple celebrates "Donryu Day," in honor of the temple-related Donryu Top Priest, featuring entertainment, street storytelling, and flea markets, drawing large crowds, especially locals.

The Fukurokuju statue, enshrined to the right of the main hall, is part of the "Koedo Kawagoe Shichifukujin" (Seven Gods of Fortune of Little Edo Kawagoe). It's believed to bring benefits like longevity, good fortune, and business prosperity. A pilgrimage to visit all seven gods while exploring Kawagoe's warehouse buildings and theTime Bell Tower is also recommended.
