Isshingyo Park
A park distinguished by the "Isshingyo no Ozakura," a roughly 400-year-old cherry tree that serves as its symbol.
Isshingyo Park is beautifully located with views of the Aso Five Peaks and the surrounding mountains. The park is centered around the "Isshingyo no Ozakura," a majestic Yamazakura cherry tree that is approximately 400 years old and about 14 meters tall. This cherry tree is historically significant as it is said to stand over the grave of Korefuyu Hoki-no-kami, the lord of Yazaki Castle. The peak bloom period from late March to early April sees the park hosting the "Minami Aso Sakura Ueki Festival." During full bloom, the cherry blossoms are illuminated, drawing many visitors. In front of the grand cherry tree, a field of rapeseed blooms, creating a stunning scene of spring flowers in concert.
The park is also famous as a sunflower spot, with about 30,000 sunflowers blooming in August in the fields to the west.
Additionally, there is a 27-hole park golf course around the area of the great cherry tree, where ground golf can also be enjoyed. Note that the golf course is closed during and around the time of the "Minami Aso Sakura Ueki Festival."
