Ogose Plum Grove

One of the Kanto region’s three major plum groves, heralding the arrival of spring.

Last update :

This vast plum grove in Ogose Town, Saitama Prefecture, spans Approx. 2 hectares. Around 1,000 plum trees of 35 varieties, including Shirakaga, red plum, and Ogose Yabai, are planted here. One of the biggest highlights is the ancient tree “Kaisetsu,” said to be over 670 years old, which stands as a symbol of the grove’s long history. Including the surrounding area, Approx. 20,000 plum trees bloom during the flowering season from February to March, coloring the entire area brilliantly.

Its origins date back to the Nanboku-cho period, and it is said to have begun when plum trees were planted at the time Kosugi Tenmangu Shrine (now Baien Shrine) was divided and transferred from Dazaifu. Located along the Oppe River, the view of the plum grove from the riverside walking path is especially beautiful.

During the Plum Festival, a small steam locomotive-style “Mini SL” runs through the grounds, offering fun for both children and adults. On weekends, local specialty products are sold and events are also held, creating a lively atmosphere. Surrounded by historic old trees and the rich fragrance of plum blossoms, Ogose Plum Grove is a place where you can feel the breath of spring early.
