Kane Torii

A historic and iconic spot known for its striking framed view of Mt. Fuji through the torii gate.

Last update :

This grand torii gate, towering over the road, still tells the story of its role as the “First Torii,” the entrance to Mt. Fuji worship. It was first built in 1788, and its current form was reconstructed in the 1950s. Originally made of bronze and called “Karakane Torii,” the name gradually shifted over time to “Kane Torii.”

This torii gate once marked the boundary between the secular world and sacred ground, welcoming worshippers as a “gate of faith” on their ascent. It has also become increasingly popular on social media as a prime photo spot where Mt. Fuji appears perfectly framed within the gate.

It is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Fujisan Station on the Fujikyuko Line. It also stands along the route known as “Fuji-michi,” the road on National Route 139 that leads to Fuji Sengen Shrine, making it easy to access.

The area is also great for a walk, with a shopping street, Sengen Shrine, and many other places nearby that reflect the local character. This is a spot where history, natural beauty, and the life of the town come together.
