Reisekizan
A mountain featured in many myths and legends, and also popular as a flight area for sky sports.
This mountain is located in Kawahara-cho, Tottori City, at the confluence of the Chiyo River and Hattogawa River. Though it rises only 334 meters, it is a popular hiking spot thanks to its outstanding views of the Tottori Plain to the north and the Kokuchu Plain to the south.
Known as the setting for many myths and legends, it is also said to be where the spirits of many fallen warriors from times of war rest. Highlights scattered around the mountain include Mikoiwa, a giant rock said to house the spirit of Sarutahiko no Mikoto, who guided Amaterasu Omikami, as well as Saishoji Temple, where Minamoto no Noriyori, the half-brother of Minamoto no Yoritomo, is said to have become a monk, Noriyori's grave, and castle ruins. In addition to multiple hiking trails, there is also a paved road, making the summit easy to reach on foot or by car.
The summit offers sweeping views of the Chiyo River, downtown Tottori, and even the Sea of Japan beyond, and is also known as one of western Japan's leading flight areas for sky sports. With ideal conditions for takeoff, including elevation and air currents, it is a great place to enjoy paragliding and hang gliding while taking in the spectacular scenery below.
