On this trip to Hakodate, I made a special visit to the Goryokaku location and enjoyed some delicious treats in the store. I finally got to try the butter ice cream sandwich cookie I’d been craving! The crisp cookies were filled with rich, smooth butter ice cream and moist, sweet rum raisins. Enjoyed with coffee, every bite was pure happiness.

We happened to visit during the Christmas season, and the café chairs were decorated with cute Santa hat covers, which felt very festive. We spent that morning slowly enjoying desserts and coffee, savoring a little happiness during winter in Hakodate.

The Rokkatei store in front of Goryokaku has seating for afternoon tea. I recommend trying their signature black tea and strawberry pie. However, seating is limited and the wait can be long, so it’s best to go early and line up.

While waiting, you can browse the store and pick out all kinds of souvenirs. The cappuccino mille-feuille is crispy and delicious—definitely worth buying. The liquor-filled candies are also a popular must-buy souvenir. Overall, it’s a cozy little place to relax, enjoy sweets, and shop.

Rokkatei's signature Marusei Butter Sandwich is really delicious! But since it has a short shelf life, make sure to buy it on the last day of your trip.

The first time I tried these cookies was when my family brought them back from Japan. I was blown away! Ever since then, I always make sure to buy them as souvenirs when I visit Japan—you’ll fall in love with them too!

Rokkatei's signature 'Rum Raisin Butter Sandwich' is my must-buy souvenir! It's super tasty and always a hit with friends and family. Pairing it with coffee or tea for afternoon tea is just fantastic!

You can find Rokkatei's classic souvenirs at places like Tanukikoji in the city or even at the airport. But at this branch, you can pick up some limited edition items too.
