Right after the 2026 opening, I planned a long-awaited trip to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, and now I totally understand why it’s called a once-in-a-lifetime hidden scenic gem!

The most special part of this trip was getting to ride so many different kinds of transportation along the way, including cable cars, mountain trains, buses, and ropeways. Every section of the journey was full of surprises and fun. As the elevation gradually increased, the scenery kept changing too. The magnificent mountains, wide-open highlands, and breathtaking natural views all looked like something out of a postcard.

I was also incredibly lucky to have rare, beautiful weather that day. The blue sky, white clouds, and majestic mountain views made the whole trip even more perfect. Whether I was enjoying the scenery from the window or stopping to take photos, I could really feel the power and beauty of nature.

If you ever have the chance to travel to Japan, I highly recommend adding the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route to your itinerary. It’s not just about the scenery. It’s also an amazing journey that combines unique transportation experiences with nature exploration, and it’s absolutely worth experiencing for yourself!

We were lucky to avoid the heavy snow and strong winds right at the start of the 2025 opening. At the same time, that stormy weather helped create the tallest snow wall in years—16 m.

If your schedule isn’t too tight, it’s worth staying overnight in the mountains. Seeing the peaks blanketed in snow, stretching one after another, is absolutely breathtaking.

When the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route opened, I flew over right away to see the massive snow walls—so exciting! I was literally jumping for joy. The towering mountains and deep valleys really live up to the nickname 'the Japanese Alps.' The natural scenery is just amazing. ❤️ I definitely want to come back and visit again someday. 😄

I went right after the route opened for the season. The trip was pretty relaxing, but there were just too many tourists. The shuttle transportation couldn't really handle the crowds, so we spent most of the time waiting. There also weren't many seats to rest because of the limited space. For older folks, this trip can be pretty exhausting.
