Matsushima, one of Japan's Three Scenic Views, is truly breathtaking! We took a local train from Sendai, passing from underground stations through residential areas, fields, and lush green forests before arriving at Matsushima-Kaigan Station by the sea about 40 minutes later. The small islands scattered across the bay looked like a natural Japanese garden. The weather was perfect that day, with blue skies reflected in the turquoise sea, so every photo came out beautifully! Besides strolling around and enjoying the scenery, don't forget to take a sightseeing cruise to admire this iconic view from the water. It's definitely worth visiting in person.

The trip to Sendai and Miyajima was unforgettable. Miyajima's scenery was picturesque and refreshing, and tasting the freshly grilled oysters, sweet and bursting with juice, was the ultimate treat. The dense, sweet honey castella from Shokado was the perfect ending to the trip.

Taking a sightseeing boat to admire the islands quietly resting on the sea was amazing. The large and small islands are beautifully arranged across the water. They look somewhat similar at first, yet each has its own character. It felt like wandering into a landscape painting, with depth stretching beyond sight.

Even the haiku poet Matsuo Basho found it hard to put this beauty into words. It’s absolutely worth a visit.

This popular boat tour won the Gold Award from the Japan Tourism Agency in 2020. The view from the water is totally different from what you see on land—open, breezy, and super exciting. You really get that sense of adventure! Riding in a deep green boat with an orange life jacket, cruising through the amazing panorama, was such a moving experience. Highly recommended!
