Kanamori Bay (Hakodate Bay) is near Hakodate's famous red brick warehouses, and the surrounding area has the atmosphere of a port town. When I visited last winter, the Christmas lights were up, making the evenings especially romantic. Unfortunately, it was the middle of winter, and the sea breeze was bitterly cold, so it wasn't a good time for a cruise and I had to give up on it. Still, enjoying the lights from the shore had its own charm.

The Kanamori Bay Cruise in Hakodate, Hokkaido, is a popular way to enjoy the harbor scenery and historic streetscape. The boat cruises slowly through Hakodate Port, with views of the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses, Mount Hakodate, the Mashu Maru, and the harbor!

The ride was really comfortable, and the ocean views along the way were beautiful. The sunset in the evening especially had such a great atmosphere, and it’s perfect for photos.
It didn’t feel too crowded on board, and it was so relaxing to enjoy the harbor night view with the sea breeze.
That said, if the weather is bad or if you go in winter when the wind is strong, it gets unbelievably cold, so I’d definitely recommend wearing something warm before boarding.
Overall, it’s a really worthwhile experience. The pace is leisurely and never feels rushed.
