The last time a friend visited Okinawa, they casually brought me back a bag of these beer nuts as a souvenir, and I was hooked after trying them once. They’re quite different from the nuts commonly sold in stores. Besides being crunchy, they also have a light sweetness that makes them a perfect match with tea. When I later took a closer look at the package, I realized they were made with brewer’s yeast, which explains their distinctive flavor.

This time, when I traveled to Okinawa myself, I discovered that this snack could be found in nearly every major store. While browsing at Don Quijote, I was pleasantly surprised to find a large, value-size package. After the tax refund, the price was very affordable.

They’re great either for bringing back to Taiwan as souvenirs for friends and family or keeping for yourself as an afternoon snack. If I visit Okinawa again, this is definitely a snack I’ll want to buy again.
