All Reviews of Arashiyama Yakatabune River Boat

I was really looking forward to riding a yakatabune boat in Arashiyama and leisurely enjoying views of the Katsura River and the mountains along both banks. Unfortunately, it happened to rain that day, so the boats weren’t operating, and I reluctantly had to give up on this part of the trip!

Although I was a little disappointed, I guess it also gave me a reason to visit Arashiyama again! Next time, I’ll make sure to come on a day with good weather and finally have the yakatabune experience I missed this time, slowly taking in Arashiyama’s beautiful scenery from the boat.

When visiting Arashiyama, besides enjoying Togetsukyo Bridge and the surrounding mountain and river scenery from the shore, I also recommend taking a yakatabune boat to experience Arashiyama's beauty from a different perspective on the river. Sitting on the boat with the cool river breeze, you can slowly take in the green mountains and flowing water along both banks. It's relaxing and pleasant, and really captures the atmosphere of summer in Kyoto. The most special part of this boat ride is that the boatman also serves as a guide, sharing many interesting stories and facts along the way and introducing Japan's traditional culture of cormorant fishing.

If you take the boat in winter, make sure to bundle up like a sushi roll so you don’t freeze. And if there’s a light rain, sitting under the boat canopy has its own kind of romance.
