Iga Ueno Castle

In 1585, Sadatsugu Tsutsui built a castle on the plateau where Heirakuji Temple had been located. In 1608, after Sadatsugu's territory was confiscated by Ieyasu Tokugawa, Takatora Todo, who was said to be a master of castle construction, entered Iga. He renovated and expanded the castle to focus on fortifying the western side of it so that it could counter a battle against the Osaka and Toyotomi forces. At that time, a five-story castle tower was built, but it collapsed due to a great storm in 1612. After that, turrets, a main gate, and a palace were built, but the castle tower was never rebuilt.

Tempozan Ferris wheel

With a height of 112.5 meters and a diameter of 100 meters, this is one of the world's largest Ferris wheels, lasting about 15 minutes per lap. On a clear day you can see as far as Mount Ikoma in Nara Prefecture to the east, the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Hyogo Prefecture to the west, Kansai International Airport to the south, and Mount Rokko in Hyogo Prefecture to the north. While you are here in Osaka, you can feel as if you are taking a round trip around the Kansai area.

Mikimoto Pearl Island

In 1893, Kokichi Mikimoto succeeded in culturing pearls on this island for the first time in the world. You can visit the Pearl Museum and Kokichi Mikimoto Memorial Hall, and watch demonstrations by women divers in the sea.
