Shizunai Cherry Blossom Festival
Shizunai Cherry Blossom Festival takes place along the Shizunai Nijukken Road Cherry Blossom Avenue, a straight road stretching about 7 kilometers between Shizunai Tahara and Shizunai Misono in Shinhidaka Town, Hidaka District, Hokkaido. Often referred to as “Japan’s finest cherry blossom avenue,” it is lined with around 2,000 cherry trees, mainly Ezo-yamazakura. The avenue has also been selected as one of the Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots in Japan.
I’ve come to see these blossoms every year, but this year...
I recently went to Obihiro.
The cherry trees there were properly cared for, and not just the rows of trees—even the cherry trees all around the city were very well maintained.
What needed trimming had been trimmed, treatment had been given where needed, and the roadside cherry trees and other trees all looked healthy and beautiful.
How about Nijukken Road? Who is actually taking care of it?
Cherry trees cannot survive on tourism alone. Rather than making them bloom bigger, please help them live longer.
