Megane Bridge (Spectacles Bridge)

More than ten stone bridges were built over Nakajima river running across the central Nagasaki City, the Megane bridge is one of them and the oldest in Japan. In 1634, a monk, Mokusu-nyojo who was in the second generation of Kohfukuji Temple was said to build this bridge, 22m long and 3.65m wide, and the bridge has been designated as a national important cultural property.

The bridge's reflection looks just like a pair of glasses—so cute! The photos turn out amazing 📸! The area nearby is also great for exploring, and it really feels like stepping back into the Edo period. Super relaxing for a stroll, and definitely a must-visit spot in Nagasaki!

Yoshimizu Shrine Shoin Hall

Tucked in the hills of Yoshino Mountain, the origin story of Yoshimizu Shrine dates back to its days as the “Yoshimizu-in” monk quarters when founded over 1300 years ago by En no Gyōja. From the shrine grounds you can catch the famed “Ichimoku Senbon” thousand-tree view of Yoshino cherry blossoms, at this spot said to be the headquarters for Toyotomi Hideyoshi's cherry blossom viewing parties.

The Shoin Hall is really well preserved and showcases classic Japanese traditional architecture. The wooden structure, beautifully designed gardens, and elegant calligraphy and paintings all highlight the exquisite craftsmanship of ancient Japanese buildings.

Nyoirinji Temple

Step up to this historic Jodo-shu Buddhist temple, set on Mount Yoshino with deep roots that date back to the Southern Court of the Nanboku-cho period (mid to late 14th century). Since centuries ago this spot has served as a cherished temple under Emperor Go-Daigo, housing his tomb and that of Prince Sutoku on its grounds. As an insider’s tip, plan to visit on September 27th, the old lunar calendar anniversary of Emperor Go-Daigo's death, to see the memorial service and exclusive access into the private main hall.

I figured dining on the boat would be super basic, but it was surprisingly not bad. The Tokyo Bay night view was absolutely stunning.

Nezu Museum

Located in a prime location in Aoyama, a sophisticated area of Tokyo, it is one of the few private museums in Japan with a history dating back to before World War II. Odaiba Seaside Park is home to an approximately 800m artificial beach "Odaiba Beach" and a rocky shore "Isohama Zone" where you can fish.
