Former Furukawa Gardens

The gardens were built as the residence of Toranosuke Furukawa, the third head of the Furukawa conglomerate. Taking advantage of its location on the slopes of the Musashino Plateau, a Western-style mansion was built on a small hill on the north side, and a Western-style garden was placed on the pitch, while a Japanese-style garden was placed on the lower ground.

Cherry blossom viewing here is nice, but it gets way too crowded, so it's hard to really enjoy the scenery.

Lake Toya Onsen

This hot spring was created by the eruptive activity of Mt. Yosomiyama during the Meiji Era. It boasts an abundance of hot spring water and has the largest number of hotels and inns in Hokkaido. Head Temple Takao-san Yakuo-in

This temple was established in 744 by Gyoki, the highest ranked priest, on the orders of Emperor Shomu. It is located in the middle of Mt. Takao and the formal name is Takao-san Yakuo-in Yuki-ji. It is a head temple of Shingon Buddhism, and one of the three major temples in the Kanto area with Narita-san Shinsho-ji and Kawasaki Daishi Heiken-ji. Izuna Daigongen is the principal image who has been believed to appear as a form of Fudo Myoo, Tengu which has been believed to be an attendant for Fudo Myoo and lived in the mountain so many statues of Tengu are placed on the premise.

The Mt. Takao Monkey Park and Wildflower Garden is located in the midst of nature on the middle slopes of Mount Takao. The monkey park houses about 90 monkeys that form an orderly society, headed by the boss monkey. You can observe their lively lifestyles up close, including mutual grooming and huddling together for warmth on cold days. The commentary provided by the keepers is also popular. The adorable baby monkeys born from early April to early August each year are also a must-see.
