Tsuboya-yaki Yachimun Dojo Ikutouen

This is a pottery experience facility operated by Ikuto-en, which has been making yachimun (pottery) called Tsuboya-yaki for about 300 years. The facility offers a variety of hands-on experience menus that can be enjoyed by small children and even in a short period of time, with the hope that visitors can learn about the techniques and culture of Tsuboya-yaki through enjoyment.

In spring, the path is lined with cherry blossoms in full bloom. In autumn, you get to see beautiful fall colors. As someone who loves flower viewing, I come here every year!

Sakishima Cosmo Tower Observatory

This skyscraper towers over Sakishima, the bay area that Osaka is proud of. At 252 meters above the ground, the top floor has an observation deck where visitors can enjoy an unobstructed 360-degree panoramic view.

Himuro Shrine (Nara Prefecture, Tenri City)

Located in Fukuzumi-cho, Tenri City, a place known as the origin of ice storage in Japan, the site boasts over 20 historical ice storage (Himuro) sites. Deeply connected to the Imperial family, the shrine, believed to have been established around 414 AD, is considered the head shrine of all Himuro Shrines across the country.

At Himuro Shrine, they store ice in the winter and offer it to the imperial court in the summer. Such an interesting tradition!

Nagasaki Kameyama Shachu Memorial Museum

In 1865, Ryoma Sakamoto formed Japan's first trading company, Kameyama Shachu, with the support of the Satsuma clan and the Nagasaki merchant Kozone. "Kameyama Shachu" is named after "Kameyama," the location where Ryoma and his associates were based, and "Shachu," meaning "colleagues" or "association." They mainly managed shipping and trading.

This is a must-visit spot for Ryoma fans! Inside, you'll find a life-size cutout of Ryoma, his actual gun, a yueqin, and some artifacts. If you like Ryoma, definitely check it out.

Echizen Washi Village

The Immediate area is known as the production center of Echizen washi paper. The 230-meter-long Washi no Sato Street is dotted with facilities related to Echizen washi, such as the Papyrus House, Udatsu Paper & Craft Museum, and Paper & Culture Museum, where visitors can experience the history and culture of washi from various angles by making paper, observing tours, and viewing exhibits.

Yokamachi Dori

This street runs through the town of wood carving, Inami, which is registered as Japan Heritage. Many wood carving workshops stand along the stone path leading to the Shingon School Otani Sect’s temple, Inamibetsuin Zuisenji. Artistic wooden name plates and signs adorn the area, making a stroll quite intriguing.
