Akanko Ainu Kotan
The Akanko Ainu Kotan, located in the southern area of Lake Akan-a famous freshwater lake and a top tourist destination in Eastern Hokkaido-serves as a vibrant hub for experiencing Ainu history and culture.
The whole forest was lit up, and the vibe was super dreamy—felt like I’d stepped into a fairy tale.
Even walking around at night didn’t feel scary. The lights and music went really well together.
Michinoku Lakeside National Government Park
Located at the foot of the majestic Mt. Zao and adjacent to Kamafusa Lake, Michinoku Lakeside National Government Park is the only national park in the Tohoku region. The expansive park is divided into three main areas:
The park is massive—perfect for a walk and slowing down. I felt totally relaxed.
If you want to get away from the city and be closer to nature, this is a pretty solid choice.
Hoheikyo Dam
Hoheikyo Dam is built upstream of Toyohira River in the Minami District of Sapporo City. It controls the flow of the Toyohira River, of course, supplies water to the Sapporo City, and the surrounding area is renowned as a tourist spot for the fall foliage.
Coming to Hoheikyo Dam in the fall is seriously beautiful. A whole spread of red leaves with the reservoir in the background—such a relaxing view.
Higo Yokamon Market
Opened in 2018, Higo Yokamon Market is a commercial facility located under the elevated tracks of JR Kumamoto Station, spanning 7,500 square meters and housing about 60 attractive stores.
Higo YOKAMON has tons of local Kumamoto foods. Feels like the perfect place to pick up souvenirs from the area.
Nakasu Yataigai (food stall street)
In the gourmet city Hakata, Nakasu Yataigai lets you experience specialized gourmet food - ramen, skewered food, Oden, etc. to go with sake and other drinks. Naka River runs through Kyushu’s busiest downtown, Nakasu. Bright neon lights sparkle on the water and it is quite a sight that all kinds of food stalls are lined along the river! Strolling along the river allows you to catch the energy of the city.
Sitting by the street with the breeze feels super chill. Even though it's outdoors, it's not dirty at all—actually pretty clean.
Shibuya Tokyu Foodshow
Directly connected to Shibuya Station, Shibuya Tokyu Foodshow is a “food theme park” and a pioneer in department store gourmet culture since its opening in 2000. Conveniently located right beneath the Hachiko Statue, you’ll find this tasty heaven spread across three areas: 1F EAST (inside Shibuya Mark City), B1 EAST & WEST, and Shibuchika.
The prices aren't super cheap, but considering the quality, they're pretty reasonable. I never felt like I was being ripped off.
