Japan’s one and only museum dedicated to the beloved manga “Chibi Maruko-chan” is located in Shizuoka, the hometown of the series’ creator Momoko Sakura. Inside you’ll find 3 different zones to explore.
First up is the “Maruko no Nichijo (Everyday Maruko)” zone. The walkup from the entranceway features a long panel drawing of a school and townscape with clear waters floating by. Take a few more steps to find an introduction of the Sakura family members , as well as the house, school, park and more scenes recreated from the cartoon world.
The second zone is the “Yume Ippai (Full of Dreams)” zone, which recreates the look and feel of the “Yume Ippai” anime opening song that first aired in 1990. With a “Mitsuya” candystore sign and diorama of “Maruko and the Dreamworld Choo-choo Train”, scenes from the animated world will come to life before your eyes.
The third and final zone is the “Maruko no Yume no Yuenchi (Maruko and the Dream Themepark)” zone. It’s set to the anime opening song from 2000, recreating unforgettable scenes you know and love with a Mt. Fuji backdrop and dynamic projection mapping.
That’s not all, there’s even all original merch’ at the gift shop, a perfect photo-op over at the golden Chibi Maruko-chan statue, a collectors postage stamp at the Chibi Maruko-chan Post Office, and plenty of thrills to enjoy in the free areas!
