JR Kyoto Isetan is a mega department store directly connected to Kyoto Station Building on its west side.
The building ranges from the 11th floor down to two-basement levels featuring a variety of fashions, cosmetics, exquisite foods, arts and crafts and more. The complex serves as one of the best places to find souvenirs, from delicacies and sweets unique to the Kyoto area and on to traditional kitchen ware and artful home accessories. The restaurant area on the 11th floor offers 15 different dining options, mainly Japanese cuisine such as sukiyaki, tempura, and sushi.
The new attraction here is the food hall at the newly added and renovated area on the first basement floor and is now the largest food hall in Kyoto. Along with many elegant sweets and specialty liquor shops, there are several small eateries. The new Isetan provides innovative and distinctive services for food lovers, such as the Tashinami which offers the perfect pairing of drink and food, with fine wines and sake and sophisticated appetizers. There is also a “food attendant” advisor here that deals with any food questions and inquiries. Also, countless bento boxes and take out menus draw customers preparing to travel on Shinkansen trains.
Foreign tourists are accommodated as well, with a VAT refund counter and money exchange machine in the facility. Seasonal events are hosted all the year, presenting new encounters with each visit.
