The Hakone Venetian Glass Museum is located in the lush greenery of Hakone Sengokuhara. The compound consists of the Venetian Glass Museum, the Modern Glass Museum and the Glass Workshop. The garden overlooks Owakudani Valley. There is a lovely cafe/restaurant, and an interesting museum store.
Among the prominent works in the Venetian Glass Museum’s collection are elaborate "Lidded Goblet with Multi-colored Dotted Flowers" and the "Lace Glass Lidded Goblet," which both come from the 16th and 17th centuries, the golden age of Venetian glass. Also on exhibit is a historically significant piece called “Swaying in the Wind” created by Giuseppe Barovier. And the first Venetian Glass piece inspired by the Art Nouveau movement. Also on display is the collection of Egidio Costantini, who collaborated with 20th century artists to start a new genre of glass sculpture. Their exhibition offers an opportunity to learn the history of Venetian glass.
The Modern Glass Museum exhibits the sophisticated blown glass sculptures of contemporary glass sculptor Livio Seguso and the colorful glass spatial art of American glass artist Dale Chihuly.
