Nezu is the town of the current and the traditional mixed together. That is where Hantei Nezu stands with a new iron fence and a retro home seen through the fence. It was built in the Meiji Period, surviving the Great Kanto Quake. All made of zelkova, a three-story Japanese home is very rare, and the Cultural Affairs Agency designated it as a tangible cultural property. Originally “Kushiichi” started in Ueno in 1970. When transferring it to Nezu, they changed the name, wishing to advance “half (han)” a step and preserve the memory of where they were - Uenoko”han”.
Sit back in the retro interior and enjoy an array of fried food on skewers. The chef selects ingredients and the cooks carefully deep-fry them in the special four kinds of oils mixed together to the light, yet rich finish. Staples such as lobster wrapped with shiso leaf, Yanaka ginger wrapped with meat, lotus root stuffed with meat, as well as seasonal skewer menu are worth tasting.
