Last update :

BankART KAIKO sits on the expansive Kitanaka lot, the home of the former storehouse used for domestic raw silk that was slotted for export from Japan via the port of Yokohama. The collective group of warehouses, known as Teisan Warehouse, was built in 1926 after the Great Kanto Earthquake by architect Endo Oto, and stands today as one of the greatest works of his later years.

The former Teisan Warehouse has since been completely made over into the commercial complex known as Yokohama Kitanaka Knot, a modern hub for high-rise condos, hotels and shopping malls while still keeping the restored, historic townscape. BankART KAIKO works very closely with BankART1929, a Yokohama-born NPO that lends itself to cultivating the city as a place for restored historic buildings to serve as creative hubs for events, shops and special exhibits.

As an added bonus, the general area is easily accessible, and treated as a spot for a casual sightseeing or a stroll after work just a one minute walk from Bashamichi Station on the Minatomirai Line.
