Setoda on Ikuchi Island is one of the posts along the world-famous cycling road “Shimanami Kaido.” Setoda used to prosper as a hub on the ocean highway. Here, the legendary hotelier, Mr. Zecha, opened across the street from the Japanese lodging “Azumi Setoda” in March 2021. This inn has a traditional Japanese public bathhouse “Sento” to provide a chance for travelers to share time and space with the locals on the island.
The walls of the bathhouse depicts Setoda’s scenery and fish with tiles just the way typical Japanese bathhouses do.
Visitors can look up at the tile paintings while relaxing in the bathtub. The public bathhouse has a sauna to relieve fatigue. There is also a lounge exclusively for guests with a library where you can learn about the public bath, history and culture of Setoda.
The guest rooms have a simple and sophisticated atmosphere with the warmth of wood. Some rooms have space for bikes and fishing gear, others with a sunken foot warmer space in the living room, or a functional desk for businessmen.
Have breakfast, Japanese or western, at the cafe popular among islanders. Activities such as cycling tours and yacht-selling are also available for guests, allowing them to fully enjoy the nature and traditions of Setoda.
