Ikuo Hirayama Museum of Art

A museum dedicated to Japanese-style painter Ikuo Hirayama, who was born in Setoda, Ikuchijima Island, in 1930. In addition to Hirayama's artwork, exhibits explore his life through childhood sketches, accounts of his experiences—including surviving the atomic bombing of Hiroshima—and photographs from his school days.

The single-story, Japanese-style building reflects the themes of Buddhism and peace found in Hirayama's work. The garden is inspired by the Seto Inland Sea, with a small hill at its center modeled after Hyotanjima Island, which can be seen from Ikuchijima Island.
The museum's Oasis café features a reproduction of “Silk Road Sky,” depicting a caravan of camels crossing the desert. Its wooden interior complements the atmosphere of the work. The menu featuring seasonal citrus fruits from the Seto Inland Sea region is recommended.
