The 700m Jozenji-dori Avenue lined with zelkova trees is the symbol road of the forested city, Sendai, where a glass-covered building stands out. This is a multi-cultural complex which houses Sendai City Library, an event space, galleries, studios and a cafe from B2 to 7F.

Mediatheque in French means “media shelves” or “multi-media library.” It collects, curates, and shares information via various media and offers events and workshops. The rare building opened in 2001 was designed by the architect Toyo Ito, which received the Good Design Award in the same year and many other awards. A lot of oversea and domestic architecture fans visit here.

Crafts made in the six prefectures in Tohoku, select books, stationeries, and general goods are available at the museum shop “KANEIRI Museum Shop 6.” You can enjoy tens of Belgian beers at the “Crépuscule Café.” This is a spot you can casually stop by while strolling around its neighborhood.
