Okabe-shuku Ohatago Kashibaya

This lodging facility was used as an inn for travelers coming and going on the Tokaido Highway during the Edo period. It is now open to the public as a museum, where visitors can learn about the lifestyle of the people and how inns were used in those days.

In the Misenoma on the first floor and the guest rooms on the second floor, there are dolls of Yaji-san and Kita-san, characters from "Tokaidochu Hizakurige," who talk with the proprietress and enjoy their meals, showing the role of the inn as an accommodation for travelers to recover from their fatigue and the clothing of travelers in those days. In the back of the guest rooms on the second floor, there is a corner displaying panels, dioramas, and travel tools, while the Japanese garden can be viewed from the main tatami room on the first floor, where visitors can experience the beauty of Japan in combination with the Japanese-style architecture.

The site also has a product store that sells local specialties, retro candy, toys, etc., a café where you can taste creative dishes and desserts made with local ingredients, and a gallery where special exhibitions of paintings and crafts are held. The warehouse where the café and gallery are located was built in the Edo and Meiji periods, and is a building of great value just to look at, so don't forget to take a commemorative photo.
