Hanayama Udon Ginza Branch
Experience the exquisite "Himokawa Udon," a Gunma specialty, in Ginza.
Established in Meiji 27 (1894) and loved over five generations, this udon shop has locations not only in its home of Tatebayashi, Gunma, but also in Nihonbashi and Haneda Airport. The Ginza branch, located behind the Kabukiza Theatre on Matsuya Street, has an atmosphere of luxury befitting its location.
The udon made with wheat from Gunma has a sweetness and a firm yet chewy texture. For most of the items on the menu, you can choose between regular udon and "Oni Himokawa," a noodle style that the fifth-generation owner revived after about 50 years. "Himokawa Udon" is a Gunma specialty known for its thin, wide noodles, but the "Oni Himokawa" here is super wide at about 5 cm. Conversely, it is very thin at 1 mm, giving it an exquisite, light texture.
There's a wide range of menu options, including the most popular "Oni Kama," which won the title of best udon in Japan for three consecutive years, and "Ginza Gozen," which lets you enjoy both Oni Himokawa and regular udon at the same time. Ingredients from Gunma Prefecture, such as Joshu wheat pork and maitake mushrooms, are generously used.
