Tanaka Sake Brewing Main Store

Established in 1899 (Meiji 32) at its current location, this sake brewery follows a unique style called "Shiki Jikomi," which involves brewing sake year-round rather than the typical cold-weather "Kan Jikomi" method. Taking advantage of Otaru's cool climate, the brewery produces sake throughout the year, allowing visitors to enjoy freshly pressed "Nama-zake" even during the hot summer months.

The key ingredient for sake brewing, the brewing water, comes from the pure underground water of Tengu-yama, a mountain blessed with abundant nature in Otaru city. The sake rice is exclusively sourced from contracted farmers in Hokkaido, ensuring that 100% Hokkaido-grown rice is used.

The flagship brand, "Takaragawa," is widely recognized as a local sake of Otaru. From the luxurious Junmai Daiginjo brewed with Hokkaido sake rice, Suisei, polished up to 35%, to the easy-to-drink Junmai-shu for daily enjoyment, and the sparkling sake with a touch of elegance, the brewery offers a wide range of selections. With 10 to 15 varieties available for tasting at all times in the store, and knowledgeable staff on hand to provide friendly explanations, visitors can easily find their favorite sake.
