Ryokusuian Kawaramachi Shop

A Japanese confectionery shop where you can enjoy exquisite traditional sweets in the atmosphere of a 120-year-old historic house.

Last update :

Ryokusuian Kawaramachi Shop is a Japanese confectionery shop located near Nagara River Onsen, directly opposite the Cormorant Fishing Information Center. With five branches throughout Gifu Prefecture, this Kawaramachi store accommodates both eat-in and take-out options. Its unique location in a hot spring area makes it a popular rest stop for tourists and a spot for purchasing souvenirs.

A perfect souvenir from here is "Tobiayu," a Gifu specialty made with "Dojo Hachiya persimmon," a premium dried persimmon with a 1,000-year history that was offered to the Imperial Court and shoguns of the time. The shape of Hiaayu resembles the ayu fish caught in the Nagara River cormorant fishing, known as ayu sweets. It consists of a moist castella cake wrapping a paste of mochi (gyūhi) made from "Dojo Hachiya persimmon," offering a refined sweetness ideal for tea time.

For a break during your walk, try the freshly made "mitarashi dango" at the eat-in area. The mochi, made entirely from Gifu Prefecture's "Mino Hatsushimo" rice flour, has a light taste with less stickiness. The dumplings are covered in a special sweet and savory sauce made with tamari soy sauce brewed with the subterranean water of the Nagara River, offering an exquisite taste. You can freely add toppings like red bean paste and kinako (roasted soybean flour) to enjoy a variety of flavors during your rest.
