The elegant arch design of the bridge gives it a retro vibe, and it's even more romantic when it's lit up at night. Walking on the bridge, you can enjoy views of both sides of the Shinano River. Whether you're taking a stroll during the day or unwinding at night, it's a great spot to stop, enjoy the scenery, and snap some photos.

Bandai Bridge
A picture-perfect arch bridge and symbol of Niigata City.
Spanning Japan's longest river, this beautiful bridge stretches over the Shinano river at a measured 306.9 meters in length and 22.0 meters in width. The bridge survived the Niigata Earthquake in 1964, furthering bolstering its place in the hearts of Niigata peoples as a symbol of resilience.
The bridge is notable for its evenly spaced, graceful arches. Constructed from durable stone and adorned with granite and Mikage stone, catch a glimpse of this spot as it stands in timeless elegance.
The bridge was rebuilt in 1929 to accommodate urban modernization, the current third-generation Bandai Bridge was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in July 2004. It is only the second bridge on a national highway to receive this designation, after Nihonbashi in Tokyo. The bridge also features wide sidewalks, making it perfect for a scenic walk. At night, the bridge is illuminated, casting a beautiful glow over Niigata’s cityscape.
Bandai Bridge is photogenic from the riverside promenade along the Shinano River. For a unique experience, visitors can also board the Shinano River Water Shuttle and pass directly under the bridge.
