Japanese Garden Nanraku-en
The largest Japanese garden in Shikoku, offering beautiful seasonal landscapes throughout the year.
Measured at a total area of 153,322 square meters, Nanraku-en is Shikoku's largest Japanese garden. This stroll-style garden, designed around two main ponds, Upper Pond and Lower Pond, allows visitors to enjoy beautiful, seasonally changing landscapes.
Built with the finest contemporary landscape techniques, Nanraku-en has been selected as one of Japan’s “100 Best Urban Parks.” Visitors here love its designed themes of “mountain, village, town, and sea," featuring hills, lawns, rest areas, and gazebos that complete the sense of serene and evocative space.
Throughout the year, the garden bursts with a full rotary of flowers, including plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, and azaleas. Especially stunning is the early summer display of irises, with around 30,000 plants and 250,000 blooms in a vibrant array of colors.
Once inside you’ll find three “power spots”, a kind of garden oasis for a full atmosphere of peace, quiet reflection and wishes: the Kogeihashi Bridge, the “Stone of Hope” on the Manyo Path, and a koi monument in the Umi-no-Ie (Seaside House).
The garden’s dining area offers local dishes like jakoten (fried fish cake), taimeshi (sea bream rice), and satsumameshi, as well as various rice bowls, set meals, and drinks, perfect for a relaxing break during your stroll.
