Kintetsu Meitengai Miyakomichi
A weatherproof shopping street directly connected to Kyoto Station’s Hachijo Exit, where you can enjoy Kyoto souvenirs and food.
Kintetsu Meitengai “Miyakomichi,” located next to Kyoto Station’s Hachijo Exit, is a historic shopping street that opened in 1964 at the same time as the Tokaido Shinkansen. After two renovations, it was transformed into a machiya-style space themed around “Modern Ancient Capital Style.” Its direct connection to the station has made it a longtime favorite with Shinkansen passengers, tourists from Japan and abroad, and local visitors alike. There are also cafes and shops open from 7:00am, making it convenient even early in the morning.
Along its Approx. 200-meter Japanese modern corridor, around 40 stores line the way, offering traditional crafts, local sweets, restaurants, and more. The dining lineup ranges from Japanese cuisine such as soba, ramen, eel, sushi, obanzai, and okonomiyaki to Chinese food, Italian, and pubs. The shops offer Kyoto-style items such as Kyoto sweets, Kyoto pickles, and Kyoto goods. All shops are indoors, which is another major draw, letting you enjoy the area comfortably even on rainy days.
