Hanamaki Onsen spans a vast 250,000-tsubo property, with four ryokan inns and hotels scattered across the grounds. The rose garden, which opened in 1960, is open to non-guests as well. Surrounded by gorgeous roses, you can enjoy a resort-like atmosphere.

The Approx. 5,000-tsubo garden is home to around 6,000 rose bushes from about 450 varieties. During the three peak blooming seasons each year, the roses burst into bloom in a variety of colors and forms while filling the air with rich fragrance, delighting visitors. Some varieties were even developed here and officially recognized as new cultivars.

The garden has plenty to see, including a refreshing fountain, a Lovers’ Sanctuary Satellite monument, and a sundial flower bed designed by Kenji Miyazawa, the poet from Hanamaki. Among them, the standout is the Rose Fountain, created in 2022, where a stunning 360-degree rose view unfolds like a scene from a movie.

From summer to fall (from late May to mid-October), the Night Rose Garden is held. The illuminated rose garden features many photo spots, including arches and art objects, allowing visitors to enjoy a dreamlike atmosphere different from the daytime.
