Shunan Factory Night View

This is one of Japan’s leading industrial zones, stretching along the Seto Inland Sea in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, with a concentration of factories centered on basic materials industries such as oil, chemicals, and steel. By day, the area offers a powerful industrial-city landscape lined with massive tanks, piping, and smokestacks.

At night, however, the area transforms into a striking “factory night view.” Countless lights illuminate the factory complex, and their reflections on the waters of the Seto Inland Sea create a unique scene that draws many visitors. There are also many viewing spots, including “Shunan Ohashi Bridge,” where you can feel the overwhelming scale, “Fukugawa Fishing Port,” where you can enjoy a composition of the bridge and the factory night view together, and “Harumi Waterfront Park,” which has been recognized as a Japan Night View Heritage site.
