Okuhita Onsen Umehibiki

A hot spring resort in Hita City’s Oyama, the village of plums, where you can enjoy the blessings of nature.

Last update :

Located in Oyama, Hita City, Oita Prefecture, Okuhita Onsen Umehibiki is a hot spring ryokan overlooking Hibiki Gorge. Here, you can experience the nature and culture of Oyama, a famous plum-producing area. Designed around the theme of "all things plum," the property lets you enjoy plums with all five senses through plum blossom-inspired decor, fragrances, and flavors.

The cuisine features nourishing meals made with seasonal ingredients from Kyushu. A pre-dinner drink made with house-made plum wine is especially popular. You can also compare one-year and three-year plum wines produced at the on-site plum wine brewery. For guests who do not drink alcohol, fully ripened plum juice is available. You can also tour the plum wine production line, sample at least 10 kinds of plum wine, and try making your own plum wine with the My Plum Wine experience (advance reservation required), for an even deeper taste of the charm of plums.

Some guest rooms offer sweeping views of the gorge. The property also features refined private spaces such as the detached Ryukyo rooms with open-air baths and the annex Oshu Suite. At the large public bath, guests can enjoy a soak overlooking Hibiki Gorge, as well as a bedrock bath, katsu-ban bath, and sauna. Surrounded by nature, hot springs, and fine food, you can enjoy an upscale stay unique to this village of plums.
