AEON MALL Tendo

One of the largest shopping malls in Yamagata Prefecture, it opened in March 2014. It is affectionately known by locals in Yamagata as “Imoten.”

Boasting a total leasable area of Approx. 47,000 sq. m, the facility is centered around the “Mall Building,” which stretches Approx. 280 m in length, and also includes the “Out Mall” on the east side and the “Outer Building” on the south side. The two-story Mall Building is anchored by AEON Tendo Store and brings together about 130 shops offering a wide variety of fashion, gourmet food, and miscellaneous goods. On the second floor, AEON CINEMA Tendo makes it easy to catch the latest movies, while the adjacent food court has 700 seats, one of the largest in the prefecture, so you can enjoy spending the whole day here.

Because Tendo City is a production area for shogi pieces, a giant object inspired by a shogi piece has been installed on the mall’s exterior wall, expressed in punched metal and measuring Approx. 11 m high and Approx. 9.5 m wide. The piece on the east side is a “Hidariuma,” a Tendo-original shogi piece with the character for “horse” written upside down, and the calligraphy was handwritten by shogi player Yoshiharu Habu.
