Located in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, within Bandai-Asahi National Park, Kyukamura Shonai-Haguro is a lodging facility set in an area rich in nature and history at the foot of Mount Haguro, one of the Dewa Sanzan sacred mountains. It is one of the 35 Kyukamura resort hotels found across Japan, and is known as a place to stay where guests can experience the culture and climate of the Shonai region.

The property draws water from its own hot spring source, Hazuki no Yu. This alkaline hot spring has a pH of at least 8.4 and is known for containing metasilicic acid, which is said to help keep skin smooth. Around the main building, walking paths overlook forests and ponds, making it easy to enjoy the great outdoors. Meals feature kaiseki cuisine prepared with plenty of seasonal ingredients from Shonai, including Yamagata beef, local fish, wild mountain vegetables, and mushrooms. Breakfast is a buffet centered on Shonai rice, with Approx. 30 dishes including local specialties.

Another highlight is the wide range of activities available year-round, including camping, skiing, and hiking. Nearby are famous spots in Tsuruoka and Sakata, including the Dewa Sanzan area, also known as a filming location for movies.
